Writing Advice And Location-Independent Living (Ep. 41)

How do you take a long, sorta-ok paper and make it great?

Well, your writing should be good at first. After that, though, it’s all in the editing. In this episode, you’ll get some tips on editing your papers well from my friend James Ranson.

James has an undergraduate degree in English and a Master’s in Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University, and he now works as a full-time freelance editor, taking book drafts and polishing them before they get published.

In addition, James also decided to try out location-independent living about five months ago, which means he lives on the road while working. If you’ve ever been curious about how someone can do this – especially on a small budget – James has a great perspective.

Things mentioned in this episode:

  • Connect with James on Twitter!
  • James’ website
  • CouchSurfing
  • My interview with Cal Newport (advice on choosing a major)
  • More writings tips!

Wondering where the Resources of the Week segment is? I’ve decided to use the 80/20 principle to enable myself to focus my attention completely on the things that matter, so I’ve trimmed it – but worry not, because you can find all sorts of great tools at my Resources page.
