24-hour care and the Brexit – the impact of German households?

The market for 24-hour care is increasing in popularity and more and more households choose the variant of a 24-hour care by nursing staff from Eastern Europe. This is possible since the EU-accession of some Eastern European countries such as Poland in 2004.

But not only in Germany, but also in the United Kingdom nurses from Eastern Europe your tasks such as dressing, meal preparation, accompaniment, etc. This is made possible by the free movement of workers in the EU.

So far, So good – but what are the consequences and can the Brexit on the care, staffing and cost situation in Germany?

In the Following, we explain the Brexit, the Situation of the Eastern European carers in the UK and spans the arch to 24 hour care in German households.

The Brexit

The EU exit of the United Kingdom is as a ‘Brexit‘.

On 23.06.2016 was at the EU-membership referendum in the United Kingdom the withdrawal from the EU: 51.9 per cent were in favour of withdrawal from the EU and 48.1 % for remaining in the EU.

The actual exit process is initiated in accordance with article 50 of the Treaty on the EU by the communication of the British government to the European Council in a legally effective way. This communication has not yet been performed.

However, the Brexit has a longer history: since the accession to the European economic community (EEC) in 1973, various groups and individuals had called for a withdrawal from the EEC.

The membership referendum on the EEC in 1975, but 67 percent of the voters for the verb had voted body. Since then, the EEC to the European community (EC) and in the further course was then developed for the EU. (Source: EU exit of the United Kingdom).

24 hour care in the UK

As well as in Germany, the care is also growing in the UK requirement for seniors. For many agencies and, in particular, for the support forces and Overseas employment is, above all, financially more lucrative than in Germany. Why? The strong currency (the pound) and an overall higher price level will increase the revenue for the support forces.

Thus, it is not surprising that the degree of particularly well-trained Care staff are based in the direction of the UK. This movement had increased in recent time. Now the question is, whether this is due to the Brexit continue in this extent possible.

Working in the UK could be for EU-foreigners in the case of Brexits considerably more difficult. A large part of the (East)Europeans engaged in currently due to the free movement of workers in the United Kingdom in employment, are expected to apply the Visa conditions that apply to workers outside the EU. This fact is very likely to be already some of the households and family carers in the UK come to think. But also operators of Hotels and Restaurants, and agriculture could be greatly due to this circumstance made.

Follow for the 24 hour care in Germany

If and when the Brexit actually comes, first and foremost, in the stars. The Brexit should be accomplished, it is conceivable that certain rules of Visa & co. be relaxed and not a lot will change. However, the great immigration is for many people in the United Kingdom is a thorn in the eye, and therefore, it is at least questionable whether some entry opportunities are relaxed really. The current provisions should have on hand, would be expected to result in a lot of 24-hour Care staff would not work in the UK or are likely to, but in Austria and Germany.

That would be for German households, quite a desirable development, because the staff has become scarce and, thus, not infrequently, also, the quality of the support forces, on average, declined. The result of the Brexits more staff and, above all, ‘good’ staff, that was previously in the UK. Interesting for us as a Portal to the development of the experience of 24-hour care would be then. In our opinion, due to the personnel for more cost-glut even increases for German households could be avoided, with the year 2017, again an increase in the minimum wage is pending in Poland.

What is your opinion and assessment of the Brexit for the 24-hour care? We look forward to your comment!
