tips & Tricks for training in the care of: to Learn has to be learned
Guest post:
How do you make it through training and examination in the care? Melanie Reinartz ‘s health and a nurse at Asklepios Klinik Nord. Their training was completed in October 2017 successfully. In a guest post, which helped her Learn during the training and, in particular, in the case of exam preparation.
You for a training to be a nurse or a nurse decided? First of all, welcome to this wonderful and important profession!
Three years in care are now in front of You, where there is a lot to learn until You are allowed to keep at the end of Your examination in the Hand. The training takes place in blocks. This means that You have three years in exchange teaching at the educational center for the health professions and then in Your training clinic will go.
Nursing is so much more than Washing, You’ll be in the classroom and in training quickly realize. That is why it is important that You learn from the first day of training in a well organize and properly.
I have here collected some tips and Tricks that have helped me a lot – for a successful training for a successful exam, for my day to day work.
Of all the beginning is (not) easy!
The key to a successful exam is at the beginning of the training. First, You should know how You can best learn what type of learner are You? Listen to enough for You, it helps You to read, pictures to support, or You write everything down, so You keep it can? You learn best alone or in groups? I found out that I read and listen to work best – so I have focused my Learning on it.
My absolute tip: Try on every case, groups of learning! Even if You spontaneously think, that wouldn’t be for You.
Courage to take the initiative!
Even if it is not always easy: Take active role in the instruction part. Use Your Chance, in discussions to join. That’s not just practicing for the oral exam, but helps You to develop an appropriate language for the training operation.
Also group work for me (helped, in retrospect). In addition, You’ll learn a important component that You for Your professional life will need to have: social skills. Things, dealing with colleagues of all professional groups, and the ability to take criticism will be a part of Your everyday life.
On the stations You will encounter disease that will tell You nothing. To be brave and question, or acquire the Knowledge yourself. You will get more practical guides of the full-time practice facilitators. This may work in Your clinic and are only for You as a trainee. The practice, use instructions, in order to clarify open questions, to learn, how You develop a structure of care and to transfer Your Knowledge from theory into practice.
Exams are stressful, but help!
You’re going to write in the course of training some of the exams. This does not count for the exam grade test for You but it is a very good way to be, how good You’ve got a topic and understood. While You practice, to bring the main points of the paper. What are You in school block sure can, the stays in long-term memory.
In order to understand disease patterns and their origins, i.e. the pathophysiology, You need to have a good understanding of anatomy and physiology. You should build and understand the functioning of a healthy body. If You know how the body to function physiologically, then You can create this link to the pathophysiology. Helped me in Learning the anatomy, such as a body paint job. In addition, I have written down to me the functions and their effects on the body.
The final sprint for the nursing exam!
And then it will be time for The examinations. You’re going on three days ‘ notice in writing, in two days, practically, and in a day, an oral examination.
Now I come back to my absolute tip from the beginning of the learning groups. I have had four groups of learners, with whom I met in the exchange in the exam preparation. In these groups different learning types and Knowledge, so we could benefit from each other. We have learned the symptoms of the THIRST-Schema across disciplines. This means that we started with a Definition of the disease, the causes and risk factors, the symptoms, and then diagnosis and treatment by have spoken. In the end, we have created mind maps with all this content. These mind maps have summarized the content from the Sciences, medicine, nursing, health Sciences, apprenticeship, and social Sciences.
Despite the final sprint and nervousness, ensure that You take a targeted breaks while Learning. At some point, the head is full and the Learning is not more effective. In addition, make sure that You bring down on that You get a realistic workload per day. Otherwise, the Frustration is too large and the effect is too small.
In addition, I have bound all my housemates are in the final sprint. Two of my roommates are not in the medical field. When I told them of the disease after the THIRST-Schema, I was able to test how well my Knowledge was. The trick here was to explain the disease briefly and yet logical in a simple language and to make technical terms understandable. So also something that You can use on Station, if a Patient has questions for You.
Finally, a few words
You don’t realize that You’re learning only for the exam, but for Your whole professional life. You can learn from every Situation. Time You’re going to learning, interpersonal and everything for Your life.
By the way, all the members of my study groups have passed your exam!
I wish You much success in Your training and I hope that You develop such a passion for this diverse profession become like me.
Finally, my Motto, it makes Learning and Work easier:
“Humor is contagious and infectious Laugh, but both are good for health.”
