According to the Federal statistical office (end of 2009), approximately 16.9 million people in pension age in Germany. The are short about 20% of all the inhabitants of the Federal Republic of Germany. Most of the seniors come from the Eastern States, where Saxony is inhabited with approximately 24,7% of older people. In the Western state of Saarland (end of 2009) to 22.2% of the people living there from 65Jahre upward and Hamburg is 19%.
Since 1990, the number of elderly people in Germany is growing and has increased by the end of 2009 to 42%.
